dr Azwan's Birthday + Farewell Party 2011

event :: dr Azwan birthday + farewell party
date :: 1 october 2011
location :: knowle, bristol, UK
theme :: green.

[1] On the same day that we went to Westonbirt Arboretum together with Kak Keen's clan (Azwan included), that night also happened to be Azwan's birthday and farewell party. In actual, he wouldn't be leaving until a week after, but we took it as farewell too because hubbykun will be away for a long business trip 2 days after.

[2] The colour theme of the party was green, but we were wearing blue in Westonbirt. So after Westonbirt, everyone headed home to have a change of clothes before heading to the birthday party that was held at Kak Wan's + Abg Sabri's beautiful home.

[3] I also took the time at home to prepare 'kerabu epal' (apple salad). We first learnt of this recipe when we received iftar invitation at Khairi/Unic's during the Ramadhan. It is a modification to the more common 'kerabu mangga' (mango salad) in Malaysia.

[4] I googled the recipe online and it seemed easy enough to pull off. Especially if you're using a food processor (yup, I'm aware I sound like a broken record on how much I adore this little technology :P) Hubbykun received the cooking apple from his colleague who have some apple trees in his backyard (thanks Jon!).

[5] The main menu for the party was seafood steamboat. Kak Wan did most of the preparation for this. When I arrived, the sauces were all in readiness. What's left was just to boil the seafood and vegetable ingredients. Two main sauces were prepared: Tom Yam and the black yong tau fu sauce. reminded me of the ones in 'pasar malam' (night bazaar) back in Malaysia. the black sauce looked plenty tricky to prepare :P

[6] The first thing we did when we reached Kak Wan's + Abg Sabri's was help with the party preparation. This mainly involved blowing and hanging green balloons on the ceiling. I had trouble with the blowing part (signs of old age? can imagine Kak Nurul's irritated look if I say this hahaha). Hubbykun was skilled in blowing the balloons, so I did the tying of the balloons. The kids were a big help with this too.

[7] After the cake cutting ceremony, we took a picture of Kak Wan spoon-feeding the cake to Azwan. It took so many tries to finally get this right! I think Kak Wan should practise more with Abg Sabri hehe ;)

[8] During the party, I had so much fun playing spin-top (gasing). It was a competition between Ayiq and Sofea. During the first round, I won the competition and the reward was that Ayiq need to get a slice of birthday cake for me. He retaliated by cutting me a huge portion of the cake! (sabotaging Auntie Fizee to grow fatter? aiyark!). Hubbykun told me to pick someone my own size, so I didn't play the second round, which Sofea won. Ayiq, you probably need more practise ;)

[9] After that, everyone took turns to give birthday present. We gave a picture frame that was personalised by hubbykun as the birthday present. Hope that Azwan liked the present.

[10] As an end note, we would like to wish all our readers a very happy new year 2012. Hope this year will be better than the last.

This looks like so much fun! Eating lots of cake for birthday parties is always highly recommended :^) I wish you and your lovely family all the best in 2012, and many more wonderful pictures!
